The state of West Virginia has lost its last Hooters.
On Friday evening, customers and former employees held a candlelight vigil outside the shuttered Kanawha City restaurant, which has now been demolished.
The site of the former eatery will become a Sheetz gas station.
“Ah, sheet,” said one guy, upset about the change.
The vigil started out as a joke, but once the organizers found out people were actually going to attend, they turned it into a fundraiser for a friend with a rare medical condition. But also, some folks were really upset about the Hooters closing.
“I started out coming in to get a job and it became so much more because I met so many life long friends and my co-workers,” former Hooters employee Danielle Hughart told WCHS.
The bigwigs from Hooters’ corporate location in Atlanta found out about the vigil and “overnighted a box of calendars to give to people.” That’s nice of them.
