While many celebrities go to great lengths to protect their private lives from public scrutiny, others have opened up their bathroom doors to share their Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) struggles with the world.
According to Johns Hopkins Medicine, IBS effects up to 15% of the U.S. population. So, it’s safe to assume the following list does not include celebrities who had the sense to keep their toilet problems in the can.
Here are seven famous people we now know a bit too much about.
1. Tyra Banks

The model and actress, who also made our list of famous people with giant heads, opened up about her IBS during a 2006 episode of her talk show, Tyra. Her guest that day was Janet Jackson, who was likely there to talk about something else, like maybe a new song or something.

2. Kirsten Dunst

The actress has been open about her hardships with mental health, and in 2006, she opened up about her hardshits on the toilet.

3. Alexandra Burke

In 2022, the Daily Mail published an article about the singer’s ‘secret battle’ against IBS, a turdle she overcame once given a proper diagnosis and prescription. Then, it was a secret no more. “She’s had best-selling singles, toured the world and performed on the West End stage, but what most people don’t know is that Alexandra Burke has been battling with a crippling symptoms of IBS for many years,” said Alison Hammond of This Morning, giving audience members the information they needed.
4. Rina Sawayama

If you’re like us, you don’t know who this is. Well, it’s someone who has IBS. She also acts, sings and models.

This person appeared on ‘Love Island,’ a reality television series where single people backstab each other on an island. In 2020, she shared a photo of her bloated stomach on Instagram and said some things about IBS. “This pic is of me right now, after a heavy weekend of partying and hanging yesterday eating pizza lol.”
6. Franklin Gutierrez

The former center fielder for the Seattle Mariners was feeling shitty for about a year, eventually finding some relief from an IBS diagnosis from the Mayo Clinic. Once he found out, so too did everyone in Seattle. “Mariners Franklin Gutierrez has irritable bowel syndrome,” read a very on-the-nose headline by the Seattle Times.

7. Jenny McCarthy

The former playmate and host of “Singled Out” talked about her diarrhea and IBS in her book, Jen-X: Jenny McCarthy’s Open Book. “She doesn’t need to exercise and eat right to stay thin — she’s such a nervous wreck from the stress of working in Hollywood that she has diarrhea all the time,” wrote Entertainment Weekly in a review.
