A university professor is getting slammed for promoting an article which basically says people can have consensual sex with animals.
Dr. Peter Singer – ironically a bioethics professor at Princeton – shared a tweet promoting an article called “Zoophilia Is Morally Permissible,” describing it as “thought provoking.”
Another thought-provoking article is “Zoophilia Is Morally Permissible” by Fira Bensto (pseudonym), which is just out in the current issue of @JConIdeas.

The article, which was written by someone who was smart enough to use an alias, states that “There is in fact nothing wrong with having sex with animals: it is not an inherently problematic sexual practice.”

Singer’s tweet led to a swift barrage of justified backlash:
“Professor, Twitter is not a good venue for this. Earth also likely isn’t a good a venue, but definitely not Twitter,” wrote @damintoell.
“You are not to be within 10,000 yards of any animal,” wrote @DropTheTinLGBT.
“Puppies too? What is the age of consent? Please give your answer in dog years,” wrote @BradHutchings.

While Singer shared a follow up post on Facebook claiming that he doesn’t necessarily agree with the views in the article, one person called him out stating otherwise.
“Peter, you have been arguing for [decades] that we need to rethink bestiality,” wrote @garylfrancione, a Rutgers professor. “I thought it was sick then. I think it’s sick now. But I appreciate that whatever keeps you in the public eye is what works.”
Francione was referencing this article, called “Heavy Petting.” Here’s one quote from it:
“Who has not been at a party disrupted by the household dog gripping the legs of a visitor and vigorously rubbing its penis against them? The host usually discourages such activities, but in private not everyone objects to being used by her or his dog in this way, and occasionally mutually satisfying activities may develop. ”
Singer is also a vegetarian and the author of Animal Liberation, leading many to call out his obvious contradictions. Like, that it’s kind of weird that he won’t eat animals but he’s totally fine with people having sex with them.
