The aging New Orleans Police Department (NOPD) headquarters is overrun with issues, including an infestation of rats who’ve apparently been eating marijuana out of the department’s evidence room.
“The rats are eating our marijuana. They’re all high,” said NOPD Superintendent Anne Kirkpatrick at a recent committee meeting.
If you’re wondering what we’re wondering, “Cannabis — the preferred scientific term for marijuana — needs to have heat applied to activate the THC to get rats stoned, says Matt Hill, a professor at the University of Calgary who also studies rats and cannabis,” Axios reports.
Anyway, the situation seems quite bad. Per a March 11 report by NOLA, “Rodents have infested police headquarters, scattering feces across desks and feasting on narcotics in the department’s evidence room, she said. Cockroaches are also abundant.”
It’s also a really dirty building with mold, broken elevators and plumbing issues.
There’s a proposal to relocate the police headquarters to an office building as a temporary solution. Financially, this would make more sense than trying to fix the current building.
In addition to the main headquarters, all the nearby facilities are apparently filthy, according to reports, and our eyes.
