Alef Aeronautics just debuted its Model A prototype at the Detroit Auto Show.
The San Mateo, CA-based company claims to be “designing and developing the world’s first real flying car,” though it’s not alone in its pursuits; there are currently about six manufacturers in the race to lift cars from the streets to the sky.
The model showcased in Detroit was not the finished product; Alef is aiming for production to begin in 2025.

“Designed to drive on the street, take off vertically when needed and fly overhead above traffic, we’re building the solution to the issues of modern congestion,” the company states.
Here’s Alef Aeronautics CEO Jim Dukhovny presenting the car at the Detroit Auto Show.
