Can Babies Drink Seltzer?

can babies drink seltzer

After my wife called me an idiot for asking this question, I decided to take matters into my own hands and did some research.

According to BabyCenter.com, “It’s best to wait until your baby is at least 2 years old to give them sparkling water or mineral water.” Our baby is about 18 months old, so my question was definitely reasonable. I was only off by six months, at least according to this website!

Apparently, though, sparkling water intake should be limited for kids who are old enough to drink it, as it may cause dental issues, according to various dentists. Drinking too much can cause enamel erosion, and parents may want to “Encourage [their] children to drink sparkling water in moderation and to drink it with a straw to reduce direct contact with teeth,” according to deschuteskids.com.

“Carbonated or fizzy drinks, including sparkling mineral water and flavoured waters, are not suitable for babies,” according to The Irish Nutrition and Dietetic Institute (INDI).
